Get to Know Me

I lived for 13 years in South Korea. In the fall of 2023, I moved to America, a country on the opposite part of the world. In the beginning, I was worried about how I would live in this foreign place all by myself without knowing anyone. However, my worries disappeared at once as I played basketball in the varsity gym on my first day at Fessenden. This was familiar. This was fun. I played with people who I saw for the first time but felt like I had seen them before. I made a lot of new friends playing basketball in the first week and some of them are now my best friends. A month later in school, I played a sport I never played before, tennis. As I played the sport with my friends, I fell in love with the sport. I played it every single day and made the varsity team. I also adapted to this new environment by watching boxing games with my friends in my dorm. I had already learned boxing in Korea so I taught some of them how about the sport. Sports are a core part of me. Sports consistently make me happy and laugh. It is how I connect to people across cultures and languages. I always try my best to play sports and work hard. I expressed the love of sport and my favorite players in my art. With my art, I can remind myself of the memories, motivation, and joy I felt despite the challenges of moving to a new country and losing loved ones.
